Because Rupert Murdoch and GWB both say it's good and we wouldn't want to upset the owner of Fox (Department of Propaganda) and the Commander in Thief.

Most of the drivers are grass roots of America. They have raced on and in the bullrings of the heartlands where the comman man can rub elbows with them after a race.If and when they make the bigs their fan base is such that the everyday person can relate to them.
Then the people that follow a certain make of car can buy that brand because their favorite driver drives it.They can relate to these more so than the F1 vehicles (personally I favor a 60's Lotus) but that would not be a prsactical car on the hiways and byways.
So with NASCAR being grassroots America and fan freindly there is a growing populaity that covers the guy from the trailer park to the wallstreet exec.

I love Nascar, but I fall asleep too sometimes.. usually wake up for the last 20 or so laps... I guess the sound of the cars lull me into a relaxing state... I actually feel like falling asleep at the actual races sometimes,, if the race is boring... I put my head against the fence and close my eyes.. lol maybe some of the races being till midnight does not help either.

Because it's what REAL racing is. Drivers that are not afraid to go three and four-wide, beating and banging, 'drafting' with another driver to get the lead, going all-out when it's those final laps and not letting even teammates pass you, forty-three other drivers wanting the win and the points just as bad as you do..no team orders or giving way!

And besides..this is America, and here we have the right to love any sport we want to. And for me it's NASCAR and NHRA.

Even if it's not as prestigious as other motor sports, speedway racing in general, not just NASCAR, is huge. Speedway is the #1 motor sport in terms of attendance in the UK, so it's not necessarily just an American thing.

That is a good question. The cars are heavier and slower than F1 and just go round in circles.

I think it's only popular with rednecks and hillbillies who drink too much and marry their cousins.

because it's strategic, exciting, and ultra competative. and, unlike stick and ball sports, the competators don't whine and cry about money, beat the sh*t out of their wives, or go on high speed chases running from the cops. in short, they're good role models, the way all pro atheletes should be.
