Laxman is a trough in the slip and in batting he will promise much but he will not do anything special or significant.He will drop many catches in slip and at other positions he can't field.In ground he is a liability rather than an asset.For kumble it is different and his ground fielding is not good and his shoulders are not strong enough for quick flat return of balls.In oneday cricket his bowling suffers as there are no close fielders and he is not able to take wickets.
It is worthless to think about those players and younger players should be supported because they are futures of indian team.

In one day cricket what is required is attacking cricket as you have only 50 overs to play. The batsman should score quick runs and bowler should be economical and taking wickets during the allotted 10 overs for each bowler. While Laxman and Kumble are proven good players, there are other players that too yougsters available whose style of play are well suited for the one day cricket as compared to Laxman and Kumble. That is the reason why they are not getting chances to play one day cricket though they are regulars in Indian Team in Test matches.

laxman is a great player that's for sure but he scores his runs 2 slowly and in oneday cricket u need to be a quick scorer. Kumble is also a great player but he othen goes for 5 to 6 runs an over when he does play onedays and that's way to expense. Hope that answered your question :)

They are classical arti.sts and they are too artistic to waste talents in one day internationals where you can play any way and it's not the art that's given prominece. They are classical singers where as others do pop, rap.
