In the US, right now, the govt is the only one that has any say in what happens to this country. The people are largely shut out of the process.
Which means we are on the verge of crossing the line out of being a representative democratic republic, and being a fascist nation.

The government tell us the people what to do, and then they ignore us untill they need a pay-rise or something bad happens like a parent telling their children off. Then the laws are changed to let the children get away with murder......sorry I am ranting.
All politicians are liars and cheats, but they are a necessary to run this democratic country

The government is the cause of what happens to this country - the UK and the US. Outlook doesn't look good!

They appropriate funds for fixing roads.
All the important things are taken care of by Corporate America.

Well there the ones who control the country. When they went to war, they just went, they didn't ask anyone. So yes, they do have a say.

It's a long standing thing which would be difficult to change. they looked into changing the legislation to make us more separate from Europe, and found it to be a minefield.
Some of our laws relate back to the 17th and 18th century.
