Both Republicans and Democrats practice it rampabtly,
Since it is practice by both parties I think that moderate Republicans and moderate Democrats should get together and force both parties to adopt more ethical rules regarding the assingment and divisionof districts,
Such as the assingment of a bi-partisan couincil or , keeping voting records away from politicians.
What do you think?

First, eliminate congressional districts. Have all Representatives elected as the Senators are, based purely on state-wide balloting. Or just leave a few districts for very large and populace states, but not the tiny abstract divisions we now have.

Then, implement something like a cumulative voting model, so that everyone gets a certain number of votes per state, and the N candidates with the highest total numbers are the ones who get elected. That way, there is more general and direct representation for the populace.

The current system that we have was drawn up by those bi-partisan committees. The problem is that if you don't gerrymander, you punish the minority party. That doesn't make it right, it just shows that the bare bones of the system need fixing.

1. Why have districts? If there are ten representatives to be elected, simply have every voter vote for their favorite ten off of a list. Top ten vote getters get in. With this method, individual communities will "do their own gerrymandering", and their candidate will win if and only if the community is large enough to have a real voice.

2. Why restrict general elections to the winners of primary parties? Let anyone who throws their hat is be voted upon. Once. Use an instant runoff balloting method so that people's truest intentions get recorded.

Since I am one of those "Third Party" people, I am also a fan of proportional representation.

It starts at the local level. As responsible citizens we voice our stand through voting. What is sad however is people do not vote on local issues. We can easier control corruption in politics if we do it from the ground up. America just doesnt involve itself in local politics the way they should.

You need to get a petition together and present it to your local Congressperson. Remember, they work for YOU,not the other way around. If you don't vote, you get what you deserve.
