I think you mean legislature.
The legislature has the responsibility of creating or altering laws that are necessary guidelines in a civilized society.

The legislative branch has exceeded the limited powers granted to it by the constitution and are in direct violation of Article 1 Section 8.
Their greatest impact of late has been to help bring our country down. We need to eliminate career politicians.
Ben Franklin said of congress, "They are of the People, and return again to mix with the People, having no more durable preeminence than the different Grains of Sand in an Hourglass. Such an Assembly cannot easily become dangerous to Liberty. They are the Servants of the People, sent together to do the People's Business, and promote the public Welfare; their Powers must be sufficient, or their Duties cannot be performed. They have no profitable Appointments, but a mere Payment of daily Wages, such as are scarcely equivalent to their Expences; so that, having no Chance for great Places, and enormous Salaries or Pensions, as in some Countries, there is no triguing or bribing for Elections"
Never did the founders of this country imagine career politicians running this country for the benefit of themselves and the big money people who support them. Now if americans would educate themselves on who is buying which politicians you might be able to determine why. BTW, oil companies donate very little to politicians as compared to socialist ideologists, lawyers, unions (without consent of the members) and lobbyists.

Honestly I wish it worked the way it was intended. But as it is it is still important in the pursuit of the American way of life. And by the way contrary to what people today think America is not suppose to be a democracy, it was originally set up to be a republic by our Forefathers. Say the pledge of allegiance do you hear democracy or republic.
