Sometimes the fabric on the bottom of the box springs is fastened with staples. The staples can scratch a hardwood floor. Of course, if you put it on carpet, there is no problem. Putting the box springs on the floor will not make your bed harder. Other than the staples on hardwood, there is no reason you can't put it directly on the floor.

Good luck with your bed.

Absolutely, placing the box springs on the floor with the mattress on top will not harm anything as long as the floor is not uneven with dips and rises. If the floor is not even then the box spring will definitey lose it's shape and effect the mattress.

Yep....the box spring is used to support the top mattress. Whether you use a bed frame or the floor. Worked for me.

But the downside to that is NO UNDERBED STORAGE.

Yes, it works just fine. Make sure the springs are not rusty so they don't stain the carpet. The box springs presses down the carpet just like a bed does, but everything springs back.

Sure why not. But I would put something under the box springs, like a poly tarp to protect the floor..

Sure. The frame is only designed to keep the bed off the floor & keep from damaging the floor.I've done it myself.Go for it!

My main objection to doing so is the difficulty of 'making' the bed. I'm sure your daughter will eventually want to be in a 'big girl' bed, so if you want to put the box spring and mattress on the floor for a year or so, go ahead. However, I would definitely try to find some kind of colored - perhaps quilted if you can find it - fitted sheet and put it around the box spring that will be resting on the floor. Then get another matching or complementary fitted sheet to put around the mattress, and with a nice comforter as a combination top sheet and blanket, the bed can be 'made' very quickly and easily - though still somewhat of a back-stretch for your or your wife. Presumably your daughter is still taking daily naps anyway, so maybe her bed doesn't need to be 'made' all the time.

You will find scratches slowly appear on the floor if its wooden, unless of course you don't move in your sleep, and you always sleep alone. (I hope not)

If it on carpet it's fine, shouldn't leave any long lasting impressions a good stream clean wouldn't remove.

There shouldn't be a problem, though I don't think it would feel very good.
