I think it's part real and part fake. Like the producers will try to do certain things to spicing things up, for example tell person A that person B likes their boyfriend or edit it to show mostly drama, or edit it to make it look like someone did or said something at a certain time. I also think they get paid to entertain, it wouldn't be so entertaining without drama, would it? Let's face it people love to watch people make fools of themselves. If it is all real then some of those people are really pathetic.

It's supposed to be "real life" for the rich kids in Laguna Beach, it is NOT scripted, but they do encourage the kids to dramatize when possible...once they have had the cameras follow them for so long, it becomes 2nd nature and they don't even notice that they are there.....

They say it's real and all that's happening isn't scripted, but I really think it is, because what if during the season, nothing exciting happened, then it would be a wasted season. I think the writers make a script and the people act it out.

It's not scripted, but the producers do tell them what to talk about. The producers also edit things together to make it more dramatic.

I don't belive it is. they just want some attention so they just let the camera guy follow them around. But it is a script that the director would give them. It's just reality television.
