If your system is clear of all Trojans, spyware and virus' then do a system backup. Turn off system restore, keep mcafee as it is about the best anti virus program, but remember to keep it up to date. Use the firewall in service pack 2 of Windows XP, and keep your spybot.

get a good antivirus and firewall set up it need not cost the earth, then get a routine set up where you daily or weekly scan for spyware and viruses so to keep your computer healthy. Do regular backups incase the worst happens make sure they dont get stored on the pc case you cant accesss it again. This along with applying all required updates should go along way to helping keep the pc/laptop healthy

Get a good anti-virus program that includes zapping spyware. For instance, TrendMicro does that. Trojans are considered viruses.
