Just saw Donnie Darko for the first time and.... I didn't get it????

Well, I just saw the movie for the first time and the cast was awesome. Lot of young actors that I like. The filming was good too considering its an indie film. However, I didnt' get what the movie was supposed to be about? Cany anyone explain to me what the meaning or story behind the movie is? Help, I'm kinda lost.

This is what i got from it anyway. The things that had happened in the movie reflect on what shouldn't have happened if he survived that horrible accident. so for me it was a prediction. when you cheat death when its your time to go and you are not meant to exist,, bad things happen, a little like playing with faith. messing with your destiny.

During the presidential election of 1988, a teenager named Donnie Darko sleepwalks out of his house one night, and sees a giant, demonic-looking rabbit named Frank, who tells him the world will end in 28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes, and 12 seconds. It's because there are too many goofs and unsolved questions but still it's a greate movie I have ever seen.

I think that was kind of the point.I really liked that movie even though I didn't get it either...LOL.
