I know what cookies ARE, just not so much where you GET them.
Are cookies only on web sites you actually visit or can you get them from an ad that is on a web page?
For example - if I am looking at the main page of Yahoo and there is an ad for another site but I don't visit that other site, would I still get a cookie from the ad?
Only the sites I actually visit, right?

NIck B. - according to my bf (who is in computers for a lving - no, he was not helpful answering my question - says there is forensics software one can use on a computer. Unless the section of the hard drive where the file was originally stored, has beed overwritten or formatted (the whole disk), the file attributes are still recoverable. You'll need forensic grade software for this though.
