I'll be traveling to England for the first time next summer for an entire year. People on the Internet have told me different things about English personality. I mean, nobody has been rude but some have said that they are very withdrawn and not easy to talk to or make friends with. Others have said they are very friendly. I know that it would be a big generalization and that some are withdrawn and some are friendly but people are making it seem like its impossible to make friends with a Brit. So, what do you think?

No offense ment to anyone, just something I'm wondering about.

And if some one from the UK is reading this, I can't wait to visit your country!

Americans, when they travel, tend to be loud, boorish, and critical of anything that's different from home. Naturally, other people tend to resent that. The English, in particular, tend to see themselves (not entirely without reason) as the guardians of western civilization, and tend to resent criticism. As Oscar Wilde once said, "America was discovered many times, but always hushed up."

P.S. I'm assuming you're American :)

The Brits I know are no different than people here, or anywhere else for that matter. Have a great time.

Its like anywhere you travel...the British are no different...we can be as friendly as the next person..but there again it depends on their own individual personality...

Enjoy your stay in England.
