i think 98 percent are good and trying to be just in all the dealings they have with others. Only 2 percent sociopathic or other mental problems make them hostile and totally selfish

Why not visit with an open mind and decide for yourself. Of course, you should see lots of the US, not just one part. Generally, I think people here are very helpful and good people. There are the jerks as well, but that is to be expected everywhere.

I was tempted to just make fun of your question, or say something nasty, because I really resent the overgeneralization that many Europeans seem to have about Americans ever since Bush took office. I recently was in Europe, and I look very scandanavian. Everyone assumed I was Norwegian. And they liked me alot. But as soon as they found out I was American, they turned on me - all of the conversation suddenly was about Iraq, and people started blaming me for the government's choices.

If you have a problem with Americans because of Bush, just look at his approval ratings now. Don't assume that people agree with his policies. And even if they do, that doesn't mean they are bad people. I've heard many logical arguements on both sides of the Bush / Iraq war issue. A good idea is to take each person as they come, rather than generalizing your opinion over a whole country of very different people.

If you are really looking to educate yourself on global opinion regarding the US, I recomment the book "Why Do People Hate America" It explores cultural perspectives and a wide range of opinions from around the world (including europe and the middle east) about the US. This book also explores the US's global policies as well as the impacts the US has made on itself and the world.

This book is relatively inexpensive in paperback form. From amazon.com it costs less than 10$ USD. I've read the book and was very surprised by the contents. I started out with a very similar question and a friend recommended it to me. I have formulated my own opinion from the information provided there as well as other sources of information i explored.

I highly recommend this book as a source of information. Best of thoughts towards your search for an answer!

It has to be more Good people here than bad. This is why. Because if there were more Bad than good, we couldn't exist. The Bad would destroy everything.
