and it seems a bit better but still down to the floor with the P light and ! on; what's the trouble and how much to get fixed please?

I had new brakes put in about a year ago...

You have either a failed master cylinder or a leak in the system. If you do not know what you are doing, have the vehicle towed to a qualified mechanic to find and repair the problem!!!

Well, apparently you wore the brakes down soo far, that you had gotten air in the brake lines, and most likely you might have drum brakes in the back, in which case you have a leaking wheel cylinder that needs replacing. Them parts aren't too expensive, but you may need new brake shoes for the rears, and then to have the brakes bled(to get the air out), and hop you don't need the front brakes done as well. Could be up to $300 or more. Hop it isn't that bad. Good luck.

Is it leaking break fluid somewhere...Sounds like maybe a master cylinder could have blown.
