The color of their skin... But seriously, I am a witch and I live in the US. Magic is magic and witches are witches, magic & its practitioners cannot be described with such polarity as "black" & "white" due the nature of magic & the nature of people, it is just not so cut & dried. The true witch or anyone who has actually tread the path, had some ritual experience, perhaps an initiation or 3, and has a working knowledge of what magic really is & how to use it usually try work in balance. Color-coding doesn’t seem to fit. In some cultures where magic is still prevalent some try to describe its practitioners with the terms "white" & "black"
Santeria or Voodoo for example. A "white" witch would be one who works with right hand a "Black" witch would be one who works with the left hand or both hands. Sadly the darker Loa’s & Orisha's tend to take over and the witch can lose control. In traditional western thought processes magic is pretty much absent from the common paradigm or belief, which enters the realm of myth & legend, Hollywood has trivialized witchcraft and magic to such an extent that non practitioners will pretty much always refer to magic as either "black" or "white” Where as western practitioners balk at the color coding of magic. This is because a practitioner of magic knows that magic is energy directed by the will of the practitioner to effect change. So it is not the magic that is white or black, it is not the witch that is white or black; it is the intention of a particular working (spell or charm) that can be described as white or black. IE white meaning "good" and black meaning "bad" but if you thing about it, those terms are very subjective... ask a wiccan who follows the three fold law, and tries to live by the rede if (s)he thinks that is ok to bind someone without thier consent? (binding is a form of magic often invloving poppets and ligature- tying knots) most would say no it is not ok, but then add the caveat is it ok to bind a murderer or a rapist? most will change thier tune...Ask a germanic heathen or astruar if it is ok to curse someone... they would say... if you got a good enough reason sure it is...does that mean all germanic heathens & asatruars are evil? no it doesn't they just live by a different set of magical ethics than wiccans... does that mean all wiccans are good people? absolutely NOT! Many talk the talk but you will find very few who actually walk the walk.

There is no such thing as a White Witch and a Black Witch nor is there a White Majick or a Black Majick. All Witches and all Majicks are equal in thier potential to be both good and bad. If you follow the rule of three and the good rule you are pretty safe from having Karma kick your butt.
I have been a Witch for 19 years, and while I have not always make the best decisions I do accept responsibility for my actions and the consequences of those actions.

Simply, a witch is a witch.
Like your question, many people use terms to describe aspects of something. A white witch is white by their intent. The same witch can be considered black by their next intent. So by addressing a witch as white or black you are describing the intent of the witch, not the witch.
Yes, I'm a witch. But not Wiccian. I live in Eastern New Mexico, US..

There is no such thing as a white, black , red, purple witch. A witch is just a witch. They practice magic. I am a solitary witch in the U.S.
Many people say white and black magic. Again there is no such thing. The intent of the witch determines the type of magic. Magic is used for negative or positive things.

There is no such thing as a black and a white witch, except maybe skin colour, but we don't care about that. A witch is a witch and if she can't hex, she can't heal.
Anybody who wants to tell you something else is either lying or they don't know what they are talking about.
Witches are just like other people, you get nice ones and nasty ones

here's a joke to answer that question...
the black witch will kick your ***, then afterwards the white witch will heal you.
i don't consider myself to be a "black witch', but i'm no wiccan either and i prefer to call myself a "practitioner of the dark arts." that means i do things conventional christian doctrine would consider "unnatural', such as performing spells of all kinds, invoking demons and other entities, and so forth.

a White witch considers themselves better and more moral than a black witch. Which is odd, because black witches tend to ignore the rede and live by their own moral standards.
Yup, I am one, and down under.

Most believe the good\bad thing but I believe it more shades of gray.
Most people call me a white witch - really I'm just a witch.

I am a witch from the USA. A color can not define a witch. It is just what a witch does with his/her magick. And if he/she does something bad with it, it will come back to them 3 fold.

Off the top of my head, and this is just an educated guess. . .I would say white withces are good and black witches evil? (The whole concept that bad guys wear black. . .) Plus I have heard in black magic, which is supposed to be the "evil" or "dark" magic. . .But once again, this is an educated guess. . .
