An "acquaintance" asked me to cash a check for him- but said "don't give me the money until the check clears". The bank told me TWICE the check had cleared, so I gave him the $150. (apparently "cleared" doesn't mean the same thing to BANKS and PEOPLE). 7 days later, the check bounced. The man is currently unemployed, the money is spent. I got the check back, the ACCOUNT IS CLOSED. Is there any legal action I can take against the woman who wrote the check IF I CAN FIND HER?? (there's nothing I can do with the bank, I also got 7 definitions of "cleared". PS a check can bounce weeks, even months later)

It depends on the state and the law system there. I wrote about 12 bad checks for my boyfriend because i thought his life was being threatened by a former drug dealer. He told me the dealer put a gun to his head and demanded his money or else. Of course now I know he was just buying more crack for my money but I was stuck with all the fines and trouble. I get a second chance program where I had to fill out a booklet and pay the money back. I could have been sued and had a criminal record because of it. He did the same thing to his bank but for 4,000 and was sentanced to probation but has a criminal record for theft. I'm sure you can take her to court, but it might no be worth all of the trouble. It is up to you. You only got cheated out of $150, I blew $1,000 or more dollars on that crackhead *******.
