I was told the EGR valve, MAP sensor, poss TPS sensor needs replaced. TPS was just replaced apr 05, MAP around the same time frame. Just had a tune-up done Apr 06 - did not have wires replaced.

Van is running real rough. Idles really rough - stalls when I push gas pedal to go. Does not always register when puching gas pedal.

Just had an oil change, and fuel injection cleaning done in Jul. Van ran much better for a little while.

Do I need to replace the EGR valve? If so, any idea on where it is?

Ok, so chatted w/ the hubby. He tells me we did replace the wires when we got the tune-up. Figured out where the EGR valve is.

Also, when I had the fuel injection cleaning done - I was told there was alot of carbon build-up.... Does this have anything to do with the EGR?

Did you find out if your fuel pump is fine. EGR and fuel pump work together and if they are saying you need to replace a 1 year old EGR then maybe it's your fuel pump. My chevy cavalier did the same thing with the same repairs until I replaced the fuel pump.

Just a thought - do you tend to run your gas tank low before refilling? I've had two different vehicles that would do the same thing. One was a Volkswagen with fuel injection, the other my Chevy Suburban with no fuel injection, that would do the same thing - idle rough, stall when I'd hit the gas. My problem both times was that there was sediment in the gas tank and when I'd run them low on gas (below a 1/4 tank) the fuel injectors or the carburetor would get clogged up. The ideal solution (and most expensive) is to have the tank taken off and cleaned. For the time being, I just try not to let the gas get below 1/4 tank and I haven't had a problem with it since. Of course, you'll need to get the current problem fixed, but if they're telling you that your injectors are getting clogged, this may be your problem.

you must have a check engine lite on,for multiple engine misfire.if it is the egr you'll also have a code for that.but ,if its an egr problem it'll run like it has a big vacuum leak and it'll still rev. up when you step on the gas pedal.you'll need to check the fuel pressure and also the fuel filter.

there's really too much for me to be able to tell without looking at it and doing some diagnostic tests. sounds like an awful lot of parts that went bad all of a sudden, doesn't it. it does happen, but very rarely. I'd be a little careful with the diagnosis. What happens when they replace these parts and it still runs bad? what kind of relationship do you have woth your mechanic?

Check the PCV valve to see if it it is not clogged or defective. Take it out and shake it. If you do not hear a ball valve rattling inside, it is clogged or bad. I would think that this is your problem. Replace the PCV valve.
