Here's a snapshot at the moment, it's evolved over time:

Duke Ellington, for his influence on popular music of the past 75 years.

John Coltrane, for times I need to listen to somebody who is flat AWESOME as a performer.

Vladimir Horowitz, for expressiveness, fire and majesty.

Nellie McKay, for sheer musical virtuosity, stylistic audacity, and plain old hotness.

Janis Joplin, for making all the hairs stand out on my neck while tears come to my eyes at the same time.

Heck, that's halfway to a top ten list... shall I keep going?

Freddie Mercury... Pablo Casals... Muddy Waters... Lennon & McCartney (one entry)... Scott Joplin (wish I could have heard HIM playing his compositions).

Dave Matthews. His music today sounds like no other band around. Every song of his is different too. Nothing sounds exactly the same as the last song you've heard. Also, in their concerts, there's an electricity that goes through me more than any other group.

Motion City Soundtrack.

They lyrics to their songs are all extremely intelligent and relatable and I guess can be considered "emo" lyrics at times.

but while their lyrics are sad their music always has a cheering up effect because they hardly have any songs that aren't up beat and fun to dance to. (so I guess when Josh Cain, their guitarist, made the analogy their music is like donuts he was right :P )

and lastly they're such nice kids, really. They're really nice and caring to all of their fans and they talk to them and everything.

Taj Mahal. He's been around since the '60's and his music keeps getting better and better. At his concerts, you'll see everyone from college students on up. If you like the blues, you'll like Taj!
