Every year of my life I have had to spend new year with my insane family. I am now 23. I would have to say, therefore, in response to your question - anywhere that is away from them, even if it has to be in the gutter.

Book a table in a local hotel, theres plenty of package deals, where you and your friends have dinner, entertainment and stay the night - no expensive taxi's home after midnight.

i have had great new years in the following, Ancona and Vicenza both ITALY, La Linea in Spain and of course Glasgow, but avoid Times Sq NY, too busy and no booze is allowed!!!!!

Fiji Islands. I spent 2003 New year in Fiji there are good hotels and good food I would go back there again.
