What do you mean by 'so many"? The studies say that we make up about 10% of the population.
We are gay because we are. Some of us just take longer figuring it out because society tries to control us.
Your comment 'I am not saying you're bad people..." is saying loud and clear that you consider us less than straight people.
I find your question insulting and in poor taste.

You see more people coming out today because it is more acceptable to do so now that it was years ago.
There is really no choice in the attraction gay people have for others. People ARE NOT lying to you when they say this about themselves.
Sexual orientation = biology + social forces
Heterosexuality, bisexuality, and homosexuality are all the end result of the INTERACTION of biological and social forces, not one set of forces alone. Biology is strong in of itself, and the social forces are often so silent that not even the developing child or adolescent knows what is going on. (That's why so many on this site hold steadfastly to the belief that orientation is caused by biology alone.)
Some scholars believe that bisexuality is the default orientation and that homosexuality and heterosexuality are learned.

Your acting like we have a choice.
Could you CHANGE FROM BEING STRAIGHT? SERIOUSLY, no joke? Okay, that's how I feel when people say, "why are you gay?" its like, are you stupid? Do you seriously think I want to be looked down on, hated and laughed at for no reason? I've had over 70 stitches put in because I'm gay and someone found out, yeah, lots of fun there!
That's why we get so Prideful and in your face, its not a choice and you guys are so stupid to act like it is. If its sooo easy to change, TRY IT!

I think that it's not a fact of more people being gay, it's just more socially accepted than before, and so more people are open about it. And by the way, it's not a choice. I didn't wake up one day and say "Hmm, I think I'll like girls today." I dated men, it didn't do anything for me, can we please move on and get over it?

I truely think that half of the people who say they are gay are truely not. I defiatly believe that gay people exist, as a matter of fact I believe that they are born that way. But, you get people who seem to think It is a freaking trend to gay or lesbian!

I cannot tell you about the attraction cause I am straight but I have a brother that is gay and I think that they think like we do just its different cause its about the same sex. They cant help it they are born that way.

I always love the line "I'm not saying you are bad people", because it usually means..."You are bad people". Why are you straight? Why are you the color that you are? Why do you have the hair color and eyes and nose and features that you have? What's WRONG with you./.. there must be SOMETHING! You don't look exactly like me! You like to dance and I don't! Were you born that way? HELLO??????????????
