It seems every time I see an idiot bashing homosexuals or their lifestyle the common response from the gay community is that he is homosexual himself and overcompensating.

Do you really believe that is true? I tend to just think that they are just untolerant, uneducated, or downright hateful.
In my limited experience, people who feel they might have gay thoughts usually become very quiet when the topic comes up. The opposite of being outspoken and mean.

It just doesnt make any sense to me, if a mother speaks out against violent video games, no one accuses her of secretly wanting to play them.

And for the record - I am not a homophobe, I dont want any anti-gay answers, and I am not here to argue. I am open minded about this, just confused.

I don't think that he or she is necessarily gay. Some people just get upset because they see it as an affront to their personal or religious beliefs. I think that saying someone is a homophobe is a way of further alienating detractors of the gay movement. I don't think it actually encourages understanding or fosters communication and respect. I believe everyone should have equal rights, and the population really needs education to understand the situation the gay community is in.

Let's put it like this. Some people out there are child molesters, right? They have a drive that turns them sexually toward children. Most of us a completely creeped out and repulsed by that. Nothing gets people upset like a perv taking advantage of children. Now, why is that? We see it as wrong, disgusting, and morally reprehensible. It's repulsive. And, no one understands what could be attractive to someone about a child.

Not that I am saying that being gay is even close to that! I'm not. I'm just using it as an example. Some people feel that same way about homosexuals. What can one man possibly find attractive in another man? Some people just don't understand it, and they see it as a fundamentally wrong thing. A perversion, not unlike that child molesting example. It makes them uncomfortable and disgusted.

As long as people have that response, there is nothing that you can do to make them accept it. Jamming it down their throats, parading it in public, and making demands will NOT make them accept it more readily. I think it makes people even more stanch in their beliefs. I think that currently homosexuals and straight people are approaching this subject the wrong way. I personally think that what is done behind closed doors or in the privacy of your own home is your personal business. People's sexual habits and choices are not something I really need to know about. Everyone should have a right to privacy, and it needs to be used and guarded carefully.

Damn, you are cute... anyway.

As I gay guy I have to say that it's not necessarily true that homophobes are really suppressing homo-desires. Some are, some are backing up their religious beliefs, some just have misdirected anger and they take it out on gay guys (just like some guys do toward women). You really can't know for sure.

Yet, it's all based on fear. Any hatred toward any race, gender, religion, political belief, or sexuality is all based on the fear that someone might have to consider that life can be a different way.

Here's the skinny. If someone says they are straight, whether they are homophobe ar dressing in women's clothing, you should respect them enough as human being to give them the benefit of the doubt until they blatently prrove otherwise. And homphobia is not blatent proff of homosexuality. It could be perceived as suspect. But not to me. I'm gay. I certianly hope homphobes are straight. Because if they're gay then they make even less sense.

And why does everyone who is against homosexuality think they are included in the blanket phrase 'homophobe'. with statements like 'it's easy to call people homophobes..." blah blah. A homophobe is someone who fears homosexuals. If you don't fear homosexuals then guess what, we weren't talking about you. Sorry. the world is revolving around someone else right now. Got back to your room. Homophobes are acting the way they act out of fear. The other anti-hompsexual people are acting the way they act out of their inablity to respect other human beings and live and let live. Or their propensity to make homosexuality the one negative focus of their religion while the airbrush murderers and rapists by leaving them out of sermons entirely. So yeah there is a difference but I wouldn't be bragging about it.

The best defense is a good offense . Very few homophobics are gay even though some homosexuals recite some study that supports their view. You can find a survey that says the moon is made of cheese if you look long enough

It's quite likely that homophobes are self-loathing closet homosexuals. There have been studies, in fact, that demonstrate male homophobes are statistically more likely to be sexually aroused by gay erotic images than regular straight men.

Basically, it's called "projection". It's a psychological phenomenon by which a person "projects" a personal characteristic or instinct (repressed or not) perceived by the person as "undesirable" onto another person and then attacks the other person for supposedly possessing said "undesirable" traits. It's a defense mechanism. The person gets to lash out at that which they hate about themselves and yet be protected from the lashing.

It's like..... a girl yelling at her mother for her "stupid ugly embarassing hair" when the girl is having a bad hair day. The homophobes scream and rant about homosexuality and homosexuals when in fact they can't bear to scream and rant at themselves for something they can't accept and/or understand about themselves.

Very good point you have made there. If funny but we ladies have no problem with gay men. But strange how some men are homophobia. I often wonder is it because they are unsure of their own sexuality? so by bashing gay people both verbally and psychical etc. Maybe they feel a threat. But if a man is sure about his sexuality he have no problem with gay people. Like you I am open minded and it none of my business what sexuality someone is. To me that their own private bussiness. I wish more people where as opened minded as you and me.

Not all homophobes are really homosexual. Some are in denial becuse of what society says.Well I know of people when asked if into the same gender like being bisexual or homosexual they are too quick to say no.Just in a way that it's obvious that they like the same gender. It all depends on the person. Some really do not like homosexuals because what they are taught from their parents.

Well, it's basically the same thing with any bullies. They are insulting and degrading to people to distract away from their own insecurities. Homophobes are just plain bullies, plain and simple. Why else would they go out of their way to destroy something that doesn't hurt anyone?

Bible thumpers are insecure in their faith, so they use gays as their outlet. "Well, he's more of a sinner than I am...I'll convert him and God will love me better, which makes me straight."

"Macho" guys are insecure in their masculinity, so they use gays as their outlet. "Well, he's less of a man than I am, I'll kill him and harrass him and that will make me more of a man and will mean that I'm not gay."

Very possibly. People who hate what/who they are are more likely to bash those persons who are like him. Have you read that a number of the writers for tv evangelists and bible thumpng politicians are closeted gay men- not stories, this is well documented. .
Another reason that there are so many people who hate gays is the good old church promoting hatred and violence toward gay people.
