I have thought of adding mismatched drawers I have and planting them; or sliding plastic bins in the drawer spaces and planting them. Does anyone have any other creative ideas that would work? I think using cascading types of plants would be effective. I already have such items as bathtubs, a sink, wringer washing machine, laundry tubs, old metal tool box, cream separator, etc. planted and they are very fun and showy. My neighbor thinks I have completely lost it with the dresser idea and I would like to prove her wrong!! Thank you for any ideas.

Varnish the heck out of it so it won't be lost to the weather. Next, take old slacks, jeans, and cut the legs off at various lengths. Then sew them up so they're good and sturdy. Also do the same for long-johns.~~~~~~~~~~Next take small pieces of wood and hammer the front of the pants to the wood. ~~~~~Next hammer those to the inside of where the drawers would have gone.~~~~~~~~~~~~Next, fill the the slacks with potting soil and plant clever things so your neighbors can view your *New Dresser Drawers*!!!!!!!! HA! HA! HA! (You may want to use weights to hold the back of the dresser down)

I *wish* you were MY neighbor! You sound like alot of fun! I once used a potty seat as a birdbath!

Slide a piece of plywood where the first drawer used to be for the bottom of the first drawer to use as a shelf dispay. Next, cut a piece of plywood large enough to make a shinged door from the second shelf down. Attach the shinges and a cute handle to pull it open and on the back of the door and dresser a magnet to keep it closed. You could even put some decorative trim on the door. You could store potting tools and utensils inside the door and pretty things on the shelf.

The first thing you need to realize is that this piece of furniture was not made to go outside. Unless you live in the desert, it will start coming apart at the first rain. It will warp and rot. If any of it is veneer, that will buckle and start to peel.

If you put it on a porch or under a covered patio, it may last for a year or two but still the moisture will get to it.

You can "varnish the heck out of it" but that will not protect the joints that are glued. They are going to come apart. Also since you are not likely to be able to varnish the interior very well, there will still be a very big avenue for moisture and rot to get to the wood.

you have a great idea but put a few coats of some type of water proofing and find plastic jugs to place the foot of the legs in to keep them from rotting fast.since it is wood they will rot over time but with a little help you can make your art last a few more years

Bring it out to the curb on trash day.

With all that other crap in your yard, your neighbors must wish that you would move.

If I lived near you I'd hire Mexicans to empty out your yard before you came home.

First of all, don't be discouraged in reading some of these posts. Some folks just don't "get it". One mans trash is another man's treasure, as my grandmother used to say! I like the suggestion "Milkweed" made...very campy! Best of luck with your project! : )
