I will be buying a MacBook Pro when it is released with a Core 2 Duo. The notebook will be sitting on my desk at home for most of its life. Is getting the extended warranty (AppleCare) worth it? I am a switcher.

Extended warranties only get used about 3% if the time they are purchased for any electronics. Most any item you purchase, other than a vehicle, will never need to use the extended warrenty and will actually need to be replaced before anything covered would occur. I purchased a great Dyson Animal vacumn over four years ago for about $500.00, the dealer tried to sell me an extended warrenty for an additional 3 years, after the one year standard coverage which was included; it would have run out about 6 months ago, and I have never had to have any service calls for this vacumn, so I would have thrown away an additional $230. Consumer Reports and the Better Business Bureau do not recommend extended warrenties, either. Have a good day!

Yes, the peace of mind is worth it.
No, extended warranty already ,switcher, it's a bad value for the money.

Example:
I got a warranty on the car and thought it was wasted money. 18 months later the engine had
a big problem and had to be replaced.
I only had to pay 25 bucks.

You will have to decide for you.
For a little bit of money peace of mind is a good thing.

It depends on whether it comes with a warranty already. If it comes with a 1 year warranty or something, then the extended warranty is probably just a waste of money.
