So Pontiac, Buick, Cadillac, and all others besides Chevrolet, (GM dealers that do not make pickups) can sell pickups, vans, big trucks to their car customers that have loyalty to these dealers.
If combined, GM trucks outsell Ford F-150 every year since the 60's.

Very little as they are made in the same factory on the same production line. Just cosmetic differences. If they did not split into two names (Chevy and GMC) they outsell the Ford. By keeping two names they let Ford win.the sales war GMC and Chevy are Republician Brands and Ford is Lady like and Lib all the way. What we call a "girls" truck. The car magazines even call the fords a feminine interpretation of a man's truck.

The diffrences are slight, but they are there. GMC trucks are PROFFESIONAL GRADE ENGINEERING, they will cost you more, I was at the dealer pricing them yesterday. GMC will use better spings, and a tougher off road package. I think that the weight on the new GMC's are a bit more and they may have a wider wheel base. If you are shopping for a new vehicle a strongly suggest a GMC, they have alot more options and the re-sale is tipaccly higher than a chevy. You can check car values at nada.com or kbb.com also don't forget to check out them manufactures specs at their web site, for a page by page comparrison you will be able to tell alot more diffrences.

Well, General motors is like any other large corporate conglomerate, in that they are at the roots, a profit seeking entity. Building a customer loyalty base for your products is a difficult thing these days, but that being said, consider this, just because they can, and they know that there are people who will only buy a GMC or a Chevy, whose only real difference is in the emblem placement and the front grille design. Other than that, they are basically the same vehicle when you get right down to it.

Its a name thing mostly. If you look at a Chevy Cavilier and a Pontiac Sunfire...there isn't much difference....its the same with Chevy and GMC Some people would prefer a GMC while others may prefer a Chevy...it is designed to keep the customer happy and keep him/her coming back....

Plan and simple, the name. GM makes both, and GMC tends to be cheaper, but they have the exact same bodies, engines, transmissions, suspensions, and everything. New GMC trucks run about $3000-$5000 cheaper in general. I myself drive an 85 GMC with a Chevy motor and transmission.
Hope this answers it for you.

front end and some stickers are the difference. the trucks are just more options for the people that dont like one thing but like a very similar but different thing. i hate chevy looks and like GMC looks but GMC makes only trucks so it soudns like a more reliable brand of truck.
