Mostly because we are all different and some people don't like differences.
Partly because we were taught that we should behave in certain ways when we were growing up so we use those standards when looking at other people instead of just liking them because they are another person to play with. Remember those good ol days when a friend was anyone that happened to be there? We loose that because of our training to "grow up" over the years.
Some what because we don't always like ourselves so we transpose that upon others
And lastly because of religion. Many religious people forget that Jesus taught that the greatest commandment was to LOVE your neighbor as you love your self. :)

The problem with wanting everyone to get along is the fact of so many conflicting personalities. You will always meet someone who rubs you the wrong way and also people who are just like you. And even other times people you will love who secretly can't stand you. Religion is another hindrance to world peace. If there were no religion, i am almost positive that we would have peace. But then again that creates another problem, then people would have nothing to hope for when they die. It would make a lot of people believe they have nothing to lose. So yeah, that is just some of many reasons why to the age old question " Why we all can't get along" Thank you for your time.

Because everyone has this annoying habit of seeing things from every possible angle and always thinking they are correct. Its human nature aggravated by beliefs and the excessive power held by a bunch of crazy people. Need an example? I won't give names, but there are two people currently on this planet that for some reason think bombing the earth with nukes is going to solve everything. And no, Pres. Bush isn't one of them.

Recently, the spirit of John Lennon left a message on an EVP for everyone. He told us to 'believe in peace.' I don't think it is any small coincidence that his voice is trying to be heard at a time like this. People have more in common than they think they do. We all have to share this planet. We cannot continue destroying it through the processes of globalization, commercialism, unfair trade, ecological degradation, war, bloodshed, religious discrimination, genocide, class systems and the cycle of poverty.

Because the world is full of religious fanatics who think only their beliefs are true. Most conflict with one another over land, water, dieties and icons.
Also, as long as our country, the USA, interferes in the politics of other nations, we will never be able to become allies.
Our way isn't their way.

I saw this yesterday and it's the antithesis to your question,
"We could all take a lesson from crayons: Some are sharp, some are beautiful, some have weird names, all are different colors; but they all have to learn to live in the same box."

Because unfortunately people find it easier to hate what they don't comprehend and reticule what they do not understand rather than learn from each other and our differences and accept people for what and who they are.
