Upgrade to a better wife.
My wife tried to make me miserable because I bought a new bike after selling a bunch of my personal stuff to pay for it. Then she left me and took the kids.
I still don't know what to do about all that, but I sure love riding my new bike without a lot of grief from her.

Riding increases the risk of getting hurt as opposed to being in a car. But if you are determined to keep on 2 wheels despite her objections- make sure it's a bike that will work for you over the long term and the cost isn't going to take food out of the baby's mouth.
Major point- take the MSF classes for her peace of mind, reduced cost of insurance, make sure you have a hefty insurance policy to cover if you get injured or killed. They supply the bikes so she can't claim she doesn't have a bike to ride in the class.
Try and talk her into taking the basic classes with you so she has a better understanding of riding. Who knows- she might end up liking it and wanting to ride also! Believe me, it's happened to alot of wives/husbands who were initially opposed to their spouse riding..

One thing you can do whether you trade or not would be to take an advanced rider course.
It will sharpen your skills, and reveal some bad habits you may have learned.
You will learn some dynamics of why bikes do what they do in emergency manuevers and how to use them to your advantage.
I have ridden bikes for almost 20 years and when I took a course, I learned some valuable tips.
A big fat life insurance policy would give your wife some security in the event someone creams you. I have friends I ride with that have been on bikes for fifty years and not one accident because they obey speeds and they WATCH THE ROAD.
Good luck.

I am a biker and I know the risks of riding. I see the EMT's point of view because I know people who have had serious accidents. Yet I also enjoy riding very much. Life is essentially a risk and there is no guareentee that one will not have an accident. Decide what is more important to you. Barring that I agree with those who mentioned a life insurance policy.

Yes she will get mad but only for a few days. I usually just bring it home and wait out the days where she's actively ticked. Then buy her flowers and enjoy your bike. This is usually most successful after i've paid the bill for a large purchase that she likes or after i've paid off a credit card or something along those lines.

Go buy a Life insurance policy worth like $250K or something like that. Then, you can have the sensible conversation that if anything happens to you, then there is nothing to worry about because you are covered.
Money does not replace a father or a person, but it is the only sensible defense you have in order to keep riding.
Hopefully, you wear a helmet. God forbid, if you do get into an accident, the worst thing that can happen is that you end up a vegetable....so please wear the helmet if you do not already.

Maybe you should have thought about her wishes before you went out and bought it, now you want to upgrade to a newer bike?? Your not very smart are you? You are just throwing fuel on the fire being she is already mad about you getting the first one. You should think about your family first, especially so if there is a baby in the picture. Which is more important to you?, the bike, or your family? If you do get the new bike, you might want to consider hiring a divorce lawyer as well.

hehe mikebrennan_us ! She probably won't be happy, but you have to have hobbies that you love. Life is too short not too. I was riding lastweek and saw a young couple on a ElectraGlide Ultra with a side cart. As we got closer, we could see a tiny baby in the cart....
This was probably his way of compromising with his wife :)
