And who got elected on a promise of "tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime"?

Roll on the next election and a government that can roll back the clock to the time when children could be punished and were brought up to respect authority and their elders!

This Government has been pursuing a revolutionary and totalitarian agenda for a long time, but it has gathered pace in the recent past. It would be a big mistake to think that it is just Blair that is the problem, not at all, the Government is full of nannying, feminist, totalitarian control freaks.

The government have not pursued a typical left wing (Communism) or right wing (Fascist) approach toward Totalitarianism.
Peculiar to this government, they have found another way, a third way; where have I heard that before. It has replaced the old 'hard left' agenda of placing everything into Public ownership as a means of exercising total control and by the fascist dictatorship route, with achieving control by legislation and endless red tape; aided and abetted by the EU and its appalling 'Human Rights Act'. Not a day goes by without a new way of micro managing our lives coming into existence. The irony is, that many of these initiatives are allegedly required to resolve problems that they have actually helped to create.

Today, I learn that British citizens will be encouraged to phone a special hot line to report smokers who transgress the new law against smoking. Now this, at first blush, particularly if you are an anti-smoking zealot, may seem like a laudable thing to do. It is actually though, profoundly un-British and has more in common with the tactics that might be used in the old Soviet Union, or perhaps, in Hitlers Germany, because he had a no smoking policy as well. Tactics like these create divisions and mutual suspicion within society. It is sneaky in nature and, I have to state, that it is very female in nature.

I haven't lost sight of your question, which relates to yet another tactic of Government designed to increase their control over the upbringing of our children. Again, they help create the problem in the first place (single parent families are an example) and then use the resulting anti-social behaviour to tighten their grip further.

The only way I would differ from the implication contained in your question, is that, it is deliberate policy to achieve a particular end. It is not a sign that they have lost it, unless we can agree that the whole of their agenda demonstrates that they have lost it. In that sense you would be right.

This goes beyond 'lost it'. It points to the very heart of Bliar's fanatical obsession of creating a fascist agenda here in the UK. He is looking for any way to control every aspect of your life from conception to beyond the grave. Do you really think he would not enforce a fascist dictatorship here? Hitler was democratically elected too remember. Blair is on a masssive splurge of removing rights and liberties. the human rights act is a deliberately misinterpreted peice of legislature that is creating a public backlash against human rights. When enough anger is raised, BANG, every right you ever had going back as far as the magna carta will be removed. In the name of fighting terrorism. (A scourge encouraged by his own policies)

"There is not going to be a solution unless we are sufficiently hard-headed to say that from a very early age we need a system of intervention" Tony Blair says.

He wants to intervene and control every part of your, mine and everyone's lives. He is an unreformed fascist and how any self respecting labour supporter can still support him or his position as leader of the party or his remaining prime minister defies logic.

The rich have got richer, the poor, poorer, social housing is non existant, there is no longer free access to education for all, the NHS is actively being privatised by stealth and yet the taxpayer is still footing the bill.

Blair is far to the right of Thatcher. When are his party going to wake up?

The brave men who fought and died to keep this country a free and sane place must be spinning in their graves.
