IF your idea truly is marketable, don't assume that someone else won't put their foot in front of yours and apply for the patent before you do. If you continue on with the process of introducing your offer to 'other large companies' without protecting your work, this will be the last time you take that approach. Go ahead if you'd like....Live and learn. You will save a dollar now and lose many later.

Patenting ensures that you have legal protection against IP(intellectual property) theft, but sadly, the process of patenting isn't so easy and requires investment. If you think your idea is worth the investment, you could probably do the rounds of venture capitalists who might be interested and incubate your idea and commercialize it.
Alternatively, you could approach universities and meet up with specialists in the field and get them interested in your idea.

In all things, count up the cost. You could have a million dollar idea and let it get away for a few quick dollars. If it is a bit much work for you, you can get a good friend, family member or pay someone you trust, write out a contract and have it notarized, and let them do the work. Then you will have the rights to the idea and then get paid what you deserve.

If you don't patent it, then you can't claim that your idea was stolen if someone else tried to market it. If it's truly a great idea, you should patent it.

No. You need to have the patent rights or they can steal it legally.

If you don't get the rights you will lose all the rewards from it.
