Can't people or producers tell the difference or do people see it so much in movies, TV that they can't tell anymore? Just wondering. Not meaning to offend anyone or not saying that it is wrong, I am just curious. Thank you.

I don't think it is intentional. I'm pretty sure they are just casting whoever does the the best job during the auditions.

They don't ask people's religion or ethnicity. They simply cast whoever "looks" right for the part.

For instance, the guy who played Fonzie on "Happy Days", who was supposed to be Italian, was Jewish. Do you think they cared? Do you think the audience noticed? Apparently not. 'Arthur Fonzerelli' was a huge hit.

Likewise, remember "Columbo"? Italian, right? Nope, Peter Falk, the actor who played 'Columbo', was Jewish. Again, no complaints that I know of.

But it isn't just Italians. Do you know that both 'Ben Cartwright' and 'Little Joe" on "Bonanza" were Jewish? Do you know that both Captain Kirk and Spock on "Star Trek" were played by Jewish actors?

For an idea of actors who were Jewish (but may not have looked it), take a look at who's buried in these two cemeteries in L.A.:

On the flip side, some people think "Gregory Peck" is Jewish because of his role in "Gentleman's Agreement". He was Catholic.

The old joke goes, "How do you tell the difference in an Italian mother and a Jewish mother? One says "Eat everything on your plate or I'll kill you," the other says "Eat everything on your plate or I'll kill myself."

Actually the reason is that so many of the phenotypes do have crossover points that it is possible to "substitute" one for the other because the general public doesn't have enough knowledge to spot the difference.

I can tell the difference. Plus, Italians are often cast as Latinos, Chinese are cast as Japanese, etc. It's a bit annoying to me. I'm sure they could find actors of the correct ethnicity if they wanted to.

I actually have noticed that Hollywood portrays Italian people as Catholic, not Jewish.

They watch out for their own. Plus, the media is run by Jews and as a jew Neil Gabler said...America now defines itself by this "shadow america" as defined by Jews of Eastern European descent.
