Can a woman appreciate a sculpture or painting of the male nude as a male does of the female form? Is the response the same?

Hmmm...great question. I think she can. Even though I'm a guy I think the male body is more of a utility. It just doesn't have the grace and symmetry of the female form. it's rough around the edges, not smooth. It doesn't make it less beautiful, just different than the female form. I think a woman can most definitely appreciate it the same though.

I think any sculpture can be breathtaking. Just look at "David" by Michelangelo. Any person with any artistic sense can look at that and be in total awe---male or female. It doesn't matter the sex of the object, it's the appreciation of beauty in the person looking that matters.

Certain I think she can. The real question is can a man appreciate a male statue, or a female a female statue (or any other combination where sex isn't the issue.) I think if you look at a lot of art and come to appreciate art, the "sex" part becomes less important. The "David" by Michelangelo is still a fantastic work, and the Venus de Milo is too. I think males can appreciate David, and females Venus.

If I ask my Wife, she would say that its "nasty", to see male genitals on any statue in public.

I would have to agree with her, as I dont appreciate nude female statues showing genitalia either.

But, being a Christian and "old fashion" in my thinking, I have a moral sense and my decency standards are very conservative.

I wish you well...

are we talking about sexes or genders. there are certainly more than two genders and there are over thiry chromosomal sexes.

If we are speaking about the binary genders: man-gender and woman-gender, then which cultural stereotypes are we utilizing?

hrm. please redefine your question. ^_^

Nope, it's mostly because men's minds are ruled by sexual thoughts and women's minds aren't. In short men are perpetually 13 year old horn dogs!!!!
