My sister and I want to sell a sauce she made. We were thinking of how to sell it in large super markets like Publix, Winn dixie or Schnucks. Any thoughts in what we could do? Thanks.

Wow...good luck!!! To sell food products to supermarkets in the USA you have to undergo extensive inspections of your production facility regarding cleanliness and a variety of other issues...you also usually have to register as a wholesaler and get a tax number...if you do all that then you somehow have to get an appointment with the supermarkets purchasing officer which is not easy to do. I suggest you try small local mom and pop stores or roadside stands.

You'll probably need large liability insurance - the grocery chain I used to work for required $1,000,000 liability policy at a minimum.

You need proven sales number and supply numbers before large chains will even consider your product.

Most supermarkets sell their shelf space.
You must usually pay for them to carry your product...
It is not cheap...
Call the store and ask them how to do it...
