Creams are thicker than lotions.

Creams are usually much thicker in texture and has far more emollients, making it better for dry or extremely dry skin. Lotions are lighter and will suffice for either dry or regular skin.

A cream is thinker than a lotion. A cream has a more emoliants in it (thats the good stuff ).

creams are usually of a thicker consistancy and contain more oil than water whilst lotions contain more water

I don't think there is any difference. To me, its both the same thing but just having a different name.
