I always love to see people criticize what they don't understand. Non-Americans use this Yahoo questions forum as a personal verbal battlefield to tell everyone in the world how ignorant and loud Americans are. People buy into what they see in movies and on television(especially foreign news) about the U.S. way too much, and then criticize us for being close minded. Must be a severe shortage of mirrors in some countries, as they can't see themselves.
But, to answer your question, I have only had the opportunity to visit one country other than my home of the United States. It was in fact, Germany. I was not there long enough, or in the capacity to be involved with politics. But, for the most part, I thought the people were good. The country was beautiful, and very well kept. It was nice to see the pride the German people took in the country. I always liked to travel across country by train, as I was able to experience some of the most beautiful landscape I have ever seen. After visiting, I have always wondered why my family came to the United States, leaving such a nice country.
One thing I can tell you is that as a soldier in Germany, I really enjoyed speaking with some of the elderly when out in towns. They genuinely interacted with us. The younger generation, on the other hand was not nearly so receptive. I have always theorized that the older folks were this way because they remembered some of the horrors that occurred during WWII.

Firstly let me say when I am speaking of "Europe" I am speaking of Western European Nations (non communist during the cold war) Europe is a culturally neutered place, political correctness has made multiculturalism the order of the day. Politically, Europe is very much more socialist than America, this is not favorable to many in the US, as socialism requires a large amount of taxes, and Americans like to decide how to spend their money rather than let the government spend it. Economically Europe is almost the equal of the US, however the EU is not a binding union..

I'm an American, who visited Germany in 1978 and was treated well. I over paid a lady in a gift shop and she ran down the street to give me my change, lol..
During my visit, I went Dauchau, to tour the concentration camp, which was repaired after WW2. It made an impression on me, and I have to give the German people credit for not forgetting their history. They were very open about everything that went on in the camp.
Overall, I found Germany to a nice country to visit, with a many interesting things to see. During my trip, I also toured Austria and Switzerland, I was impressed with the those countries, too!
Europeans seem to be more concerned with living healthy and spending time with their families. I don't want to debate politices, lol...Europe vs. America. I realize Germany is much further to the left on social programs. Anyway, I think Americans work to much too, to have too much! Personally, less is more, and I think the Europeans understand this better than Americans.
Ok, I know I'm going to get slammed by my fellow Americans, lol..I can take it. But, look around you, Americans eat, too much, spend too much and for the most part drive gas hog cars. And pay for these things by working more! Now, I understand that working more is not always a choice, sometimes it is a requirement. But, how did America get to that point? Is it a result of global competition or greed?

What image an American would have of Europe? I would say the United Kingdom and France are screwed since they let in the Moslem hordes. Germany has very low birth rates so eventually Germans are going to be a minority in their own country. But this is happening all over Europe. I heard the "hate" laws in Germany are extreme. I hope to see Europe in the near future before the SHTF. Russia seems to be doing a lot better on most issues and are very Nationalistic.

I am an Indian and like to express my views about Germany in particular. I regard Germany as a socially good country with honest, industrious and peace-loving citizens with appreciable social and family bond. Germany is the country which has devoted sufficient time and energy to study ancient culture and religious books of India. Although one of Germany's leaders (Adolf Hitler) was fanatic, the world today owes many of the great advancements and achievements to him. Germans have shown tremendous courage, patience and dedication to recover, rebuild, re-unite and progress in record time after World War II. It is generally believed that Germans talk less and do more. Like India, Germany too is a peace-loving nation and believes in non-interference in other country's affairs.

I admit I dont know much, other countries problems or politics are generally not covered in our media here. There was a wretched flood a few years back yes? Ive seen photos online and think you have beautiful buildings and oh wasnt it germany where Bush tried to feel up the woman there and she looked horribly uncomfortable and he just kept talking about a pig. YOu have a woman prime minister or president? I always wanted to know if here in america we talk about our great "freedoms' But how is it different living there

Excellent people. But of late,US policies are affecting your way of thinking and interacting with the Muslim world.I am a great admirer of German technology and flawless product finish.Europeans are having a very good civic sense and infrastructure management skills.I have noticed your cities and public places are very calm and people speak in low voice. In short,Europe is very clean and beautiful.Your leaders should stay away from US otherwise they will get corrupted.
