I see that gas has more votes..so I will trust you guys. Still I've heard that the food will taste like gas. Anyway, as far as brands go. It seems that they all look about the same and they all can have problems with rust..even the pricey ones. Which grill is best for the money $250-350? It doesn't need to be a large grill, its just the two of us and a baby but we occasionally have people over.

Best advice is to buy a grill from a manufacturer whose parts are readily available. If you use your grill a lot, you will eventually have to replace the burner and possibly other parts. If you buy an "offbrand" grill, finding those parts will be a problem.
Look at the replacement parts available at your local retailer and buy a grill made by the same manufacturer. Others have suggested good brands.
By the way, this website is my all time favorite for all things BBQ and grilling:
http://www.thesmokering.com/
I'm betting that you will spend a lot of time exploring the site and all of the links it provides.
Good luck with your new grill.

Love our Charbroil stainless steel, 4 burner, side burner, gas grill. It has cast iron grates that are reversible to a grill pan or a flat surface so you can even make pancakes on the grill. It comes in a natural gas or propane version, has a lifetime warranty and storage underneath for all of your tools. It isn't pricey either, ours was about $350 at the Lowes. It even comes with a CD/DVD with a recipe book, helpful hints, cleaning instructions, warranty information and a 24 hour hotline actually manned by a real live person. Our food does not taste like gas and you can put mesquite or other wood flavor chips in it if you want.

Get one with stainless steel burnres and cast iron grates. rust wont be a problem if you get a quality grill cover and clean it after use. As to flaver, i was always a charcaol guy until i receieved a gas grill. There is no gas taste at all and the convience of instant heat is a plus. you need to look at side burners, two vs four wheels(best),and a solid base. Char broil, kenmoore, webber. fiesta

Might I suggest that a charcoal grill, using real hardwood charcoal (NOT briquets) will give you vastly better food?
I've cooked for many years over gas, wood and charcoal (both real and briquets). Real charcoal is the way to go. No fillers, binders or impurities in the fuel and it imparts a delicious flavor that no gas grill can ever match.
As a bonus, you can buy a much larger/nicer charcoal grill (or grill/smoker) for the money and assembly is much easier.
You can get real hardwood charcoal at Home Depot, Lowes, most hardware stores and over the net.
