We read about all the problems with world hunger, diseases, lack of medical treatment etc. What I do not understand is why these people continue to populate. I have nothing against having children, but if one lives in a devasted area, knowing that there is no food, medicine, jobs, homes, etc, why continue to bring children to suffer? I breaks my heart to see these children hurt. Then not to mention that should they survive, they probably are taken into slavery, to fight their wars, etc.

Cpinatsi speaks the truth. It might also be important to ask why the leaders of poor countries continue to keep their people in the dark (in ignorance), when they could make some positive changes. Of course, our leaders try to keep us in the dark here too, but in a different way. Once people begin to climb out of poverty and become more self-sufficient, their birth rates drop. Sometimes, I almost feel like there is a frenzy to have as many children as possible, because you might not survive from one moment to the next.

I assume you are referring to third world countries. As far as I know the people there don't believe in abortion. Maybe they have not been educated to the facts of birth control. If you are talking about our country, and the lack of everything then maybe ignorance is the culprit. Parents don't believe that their children will suffer even though they themselves have nothing. Their was a time long ago when it was legal to starve, and mistreat humans, and then enslave them to fight wars. I don't believe that people have children, and get married to live in poverty. I guess that says something about the phrase "and liberty, and justice for all". Most educated people are aware of birth control measures, and even without medical coverage seem to come out alright. No child in this country or anywhere else should have to suffer from hunger or abuse but they do. Somebody somewhere is not doing their job. I'll give you three guesses, and the first two don't count on where this would be.

There are soooo many things that need to be done in THIS world to make it better....but , unfortunately, all have to be taken in small steps to be successful...the fact of the matter is ...that people in general do not react to large changes in their lifestyle, or government, or personal space well.
We all (well most of us humans) would hope for a more understanding, respectful and calm world...however, a large percent of the population want and demand these changes in their life from their livingrooms..........., however, "physically", they never get involved.
Aside from war and starvation and wide-spread disease, **such things infest our world, but for example..How many of us or people you know walk by a homeless man on the street and say "hi"? Not many, I'm sure... or How many of us see trash on the ground and never pick it up? These are small things that are constantly overlooked, yet can hold a HUGE impact on us if we would all just follow through...consider just half of us, making the extra effort each day to pick up trash or give a sandwich and a coke to a homeless person, or helping someone carry their groceries to their car....what a difference and show of "Basic respect" that is for human life and the world. We worry an extreme amount of hours and years about how we can improve the car and how we can save time downloading music from the pc or how to make a quicker and easier fruit juicer, but what do we do with all the time we saved??? Not much..at least not much time spent on the real issues here..... Anyway, I took up a lot of space on your question so, I'll go...hopefully we can overcome some of these larger problems soon, before it's too late. Thank you.

This world has the resources to support ten times the present number but because of greed, corruption, and willful avarice on the part of the so called leaders this world is more a struggle than Heaven sent! There is no cooperation, no sharing, no understanding coming from any of the existing world political figures! Until this changes you can expect the situation to be worse!

It is true, even in rich societies, that the poorest people have the most children. That is happening because most poor people cannot afford education and information, and they do not think the same way as you do. Do you think they have condoms, etc? Do you know that most children in underdevelopped African countries are orphans because their parents died of AIDS, and they have AIDS themselves? I don't suppose any of us would have a child if we had AIDS, but those people don't know any better, because they have no opportunity to learn.

Overpopulation is the single biggest problem the world has. It makes everything else worse. The only way to fight overpopulation is with education and THINKING.

Yeah, even in the U.S. I hate to see parents who have several young kids at once.
