The concrete has to be etched with acid to clean it and allow even stain penetration. Don't worry this isn't as bad as it sounds simply spray on and spray off. allow to dry then apply your stain H&C concrete stain is an excellent choice and is available at your local sherwin williams. as far as application spraying is preferred. if you dont have a sprayer it can be rented for about 50 bucks and will turn an all day project into an hour so it's well worth it.also just an idea you can apply patterns such as stone or brick by getting stencils for about 30bucks but this is a 2 step process 1st you have to put down a base coat for the morter color then the stone or brick color. Lots of patterns are available. The best thing to do is go to your local sherwin williams they have everything i've discussed there and they can print out a complete set of instructions for you with illustrations. Very Helpfull.
