the black vien tile was for the floor,but we had so much left over we did the countertops. i sealed one countertop with the recommened sealant from lowes and its peeling . so now i dont want to seal the rest. is it harmful for us making sandwiches or cooking on it? thanks teresa

This should not be happening...
You should have used a solvent based impregnating sealant..
Either you used the wrong thing as a sealant or there was something in your tile which is coming out and lifting whatever it was that you coated your tile with up off the tile...
Marble has been used for countertops for thousands of years and only in the past few decades have sealants been offered...

Marble is very porous. Like the other person said-- it's been in use for hundreds of years. I think I'd check with a stone/marble providedr- not a big box place. The big box places have good people, but marble isn't the same as other surfaces.

if you don't seal it, liquids will soak in to the marble and it will be unsanitary and stained/discolored. It sounds so pretty! make sure you always use a cutting board even after sealing it, talk to the guys at Lowe's about the peeling.
