I think potato sack strings are meant to work like drawstrings so you can reclose the bag...but gee, I just rip 'em open and grab the taters

Dont cut it. Hold the top of the bag in one hand with the bag on the ground, taut so that the bag is stretched out a bit. Take the string in the other hand, and pull in the reverse direction.

If you get it right, its actually suprisingly easy.

Mind you this only works 1 in 3 times for me.

It is a chain stitch, look for the tail, you have to find the one string that goes through the loops , and pull on it, it should pull into one long piece of string.

They're trick sacks!
Simply ignore the instructions, and cut across the bag under the string, far neater and less stressful

I have given up the struggle. I either use a very sharp knife to cut along the middle of the stitching or I just use sharp scissors and cut under the stitching

The trick is to cut between the strings, holding one of them, and then a sharp tug and then it unravels !!!

Just use a pocket knife to cut the bag itself. That's what I do at work.

Knife. Use a stab followed by a rip. This technique will save valuable time in your life. We only have so much of it, you know. Hope this helps. If not, well them at least I have my two points. Don't think I'll ever do anything worthwhile with them, but they're mine now... all mine.

Nothing I've tried works.

Whack it with an axe. Then whack the idiots who package stuff that way.
