We live becasue we chose to come here. The outcome of that life is based on the decisions made while alive. If time reversed, from the outcome to the free will decision, the same conditions would exist -- outcome and action or action and outcome -- only the order in which they occur would be different. We live because we are not un-alive. What came before and what comes after are like the outcome/action mentioned above. We will be, we are, and we are no longer. Reverse that and its the same thing. We are, because we are.

80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

We live because we are eternal living energy, the spiritual energy of the Supreme Lord. Therefore, we are eternally alive. There was never a time when we weren't alive and there will never be a time when we won't be alive. The body we are riding in is temporary of course and will "die" in a few years. But the body is the vehicle, not the driver-- you.
The outcome of your life is what you prepare it to be. If you act to better your life by acting to realize your eternal nature, you will never have to be forced to live in a material body again. This is the first step in spiritual realization. To make further spiritual progress you can act as pure spirit soul by being established in loving devotional service to the Supreme Lord, bhakti-yoga. This will bring you to the perfection of life -- direct association with the Lord in the paravyoma, spiritual world. That life is eternally filled with unlimited bliss and complete knowledge. So there is no limit to what you can achieve with the proper knowledge. Check out the Bhagavad-gita online at the link below.

(1) We live because our parents had sex. Don't fret. You're going to do the same thing and have a child who will be asking the same questions. It's normal. It's quite okay. Go. Do it. Have fun doing it.
(2) The outcome of our lives is death. Therefore, enjoy this life to the fullest. After this life, there is nothing. This is not that bad at all if you remember that before this life there was nothing. Nobody is unhappy to realize they know nothing about themselves before this life. See? Nobody is going to mind when they find out there's nothing after death. You're going to be just fine.
(3) Am I good at this, or what?

To grow, emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually. Ideally, if you're a Christian, to grow more like the Christ. The outcome is to become what you were intended to become from time immemorial--God's companion.
Or, then again, according to Robert Heinlein's recurring character Lazarus Long, we're just a means for gametes to make more gametes. A gamete being, for those uninitiated into the mysteries of human reproduction, either a sperm or an egg.

I think that we all play a small or large part of a bigger plan made by God. Some of us are martyrs, some are heroes, some are villains. But I think the primary reason is that we have to chose a side, good or evil. But I also think that one of the reasons we live is to die and go either to Heaven or Hell. The rest I can't tell because we all have some kind of part to play, or maybe because we are here to learn and understand.

We were created to worship our creator. That is the purpose of our life. And our outcome will be based on how well each of us served our purpose.

The purpose of our existence is to love God. Unfortunately, we have become forgetful of Him. But this human form of life is especially meant for reviving our lost relationship with God through the practice of bhakti yoga. If we spend our life in eating, sleeping, mating and defending, we have wasted this human life, and after leaving this body we will be born as animals. But if we act properly, we will achieve perfection, pure love for God and regain our eternal spiritual body. We are not meant to suffer. We are not meant to die. We are meant to be unlimitedly happy. If you want your life to be like that, inquire further how to achieve it.
