too much water in the system makes the blood pump harder increasing the blood pressure....so slow down on the liquids.
If you're drinking colas, gatorade, anything with caffeine, then stop and drink only water.

Slow down on the salt and sodium (canned goods and salting your foods) because salt/sodium hold water in the body.

Bake everything (no greasy burgers, no meat, no restaurants) yourself. Eat a vegetarian diet of fruits, vegetables, nuts.

Try it for a year, see if there is any change.
It should help you shed a few pounds too.
Exercise, or just walk a lot.

HTN-Hypertension can be controlled in many ways. As previously noted: exercise-routinely for approximately 30 minutes at least 3 times a week. Even walking is great. Lower your sodium/salt intake. Do not smoke or drink alcohol and if you do drink alcohol drink it very seldomly. Decrease your caffiene intake. Is your blood pressure always elevated? or only when you go into the doctor? Some people get what we call White Coat syndrome, meaning when they go into the doctors their BP automatically elevates as they become nervous. 2nd take your BP about 3-6 times per day to see if you can pinpoint when it is most elevated. Keep a log daily of the time you took it and what it is and take this into your physician. This will assist your doctor in knowing if it is situational/stress induced or if you may possibly need to be on BP medication. Also, look at what medications you are on. Some medications actually increase your BP. Don't ignore your elevated blood pressure. A normal BP is 100-140 over 60-90. Take care.

The risk of this disorder can be due to obesity,, high sodium levels, high cholesterol and a family history. Known cause can be adrenal disorder, the gland on the kidney, a high secretion of aldosterone secreted by the adrenal cortex, Cushing disease also caused by the adrenal cortex, and others to complicated to mention. People with high pressure, should maintain a diet low in sodium. low saturated fat diet, exercise, less stress, and rest. If all else fails, you doctor is the best person to talk to. I recently-3 months ago-was put on bp meds. My bp at that time was 156/80. I cannot seem to get the top # down much-it is now 143/63 and I think the solution is to excercise-hate it!!!-and lose weight-am trying. The strange thing is I used little salt before I went on the bp meds but now crave it and perhaps, that is hindering the reduction in the top #. So.,my advice is still, see your doctor, lose weight if you need to, take a daily walk and cut down on salt...

watch your diet very carefully. eat as little salt as possible., which means that you need to check food before you buy it. you will be surprised at how much salt you consume without even realizing it. you also need to watch the stress in you life and exercise every day even if it is just taking a walk around your yard a few times a day. good luck with your health
