I'm a Christian by faith, but was not a born Christian. When I first learned about it, I was really intrigued by its miracles and such, and started to believe that God is marvellous. However, as years passed by, I notice that there are so many Christians freaks out there who proclaim that they believe in God and brag things about Christianity but they fail to show others that they are Christians. They tend to be proud, praying loudly in public, have no mercy towards people who seem inferior to them, and also become very 'holy' in church, which annoys me the most. Hence, I've started disliking these Christians and begin to feel...are all Christians supposed to be like this? I feel funny because I've been believing in God for 7 years and I know we are not supposed to be acting like this. Honestly, this has stopped me from worshipping in church anymore. Please help. Serious answers are appreciated. Thanks.

Claire, I am not a Christian, but I do understand where you are coming from, your belief should be sacred to you, you don't have to shout it to everyone to be a believer, some of the most ardent believers keep it to themselves.

Be aware that a lot of so called Christians are anything but ... remember the parable of the 'Good Samritan' - it is the acts that define what you are NOT the words spoken or shouted or preached at anybody.

You can be just as much a devout believer in a broken down church in the middle of a foreign countryside as anybody who tries to force others in their belief.

Your level of belief is how much YOU believe in it, not by how many people you try and convince/force into believing what you do.

Keep the faith.

I am a Christian and I also went to church for the first 14 years of my life, I was made to go, Sunday Morning and night and on Wednesday night and sometimes Thursday night for visitation. I did not notice exactly how people were til I hit my teen years and I started noticing all the bickering in the church between the few that I noticed outside the church were just like everybody else. I would see them at the local restuarant with a beer on the table with there meal and a ash tray with cigarets in it still smoking. I believe that you can be a christian and not go to church and I also believe that God listens to you when ever you talk to him. The church has changed and its purpose has changed with it. Church was supposed to be a place of worship, to help christians keep the faith and to keep its doors open to anyone that would wander in off the streets in hopes to tell them about God and maybe get them saved. I do not see this in churches anymore. I have not been to church since 1985. I have also met these people that are hollier than thou and I don't miss them. I believe if I had stayed there my faith in God would have dropped severly. If people want to go to church I think it is good, but only for a little while. I think if you are there too long then you will see the bad side of it and it weakens your faith. You have those people that don't like to be outdone so they push too hard to out do the other and the people there that are young in there faith get trampled in the process. Just like everbody else I am not perfect and do not claim to be, but I think I am better off out of the church than in one. Good luck.

I was raised catholic, and one day i just realized that that religion had no meaning for me anymore. Does that mean I stopped believing in God? No, I still say prayers and I believe they are answered. I understand your predictament, and you have every right to question christianity like you do. What I find offensive and disgusting are the christian fundamentalist who make the claim that God hates gays etc. That is just nonsense. These people want to push America back 500 years.
I encourange you to seek out other religions and see what you discover. God will not be angry at you for that. A friend of mine once said, there are many paths to God, some are just more structured than others. Send me an email if ya wanna chat.

One day I was feeling lower than I have felt in a long long time. While driving aound aimlessly with many things on my mind, in the wee hours of the night with no one to turn to for help, I felt utterly alone. I turned as some others have done to God for help... I figured what could it hurt? I thought if I could just sit in a church, I'd be comforted thinking that maybe I wasn't alone. When I got to the church in my time of need I found the door to be locked. It was then I realized that a church is man- made and anything surrounding it, within it, and dealing with it couldn't be God. If God is, there are no doors.

Like all other religions or groups, there are always the extremists who believe this is the way they are supposed to behave to fit in.
YOUR relationship with GOD as a Christian is what you make it.

If you are uncomfortable in this Church, just find another one.
And actually, you don't need to go to church to be a Christian. You can pray at home or wherever you want at any time.

The only reason Christians are encouraged to attend Church is because the Bible says we need to "edify one another and build each other up".

Not all Christians are the same and choose to worship God differently. Don't hold it against them and don't let their actions prevent you from worshipping in church. Do what you feel is comfortable for you.

just realize that every single one of church people is on the process of maturity. with all flaws and all. and it's sad to be bugged with some attitudes that are self-seeking. and you see professing christians who don't actually possess Christ in themselves.

but keep looking to Jesus!!!!! keep the faith.

i can't blame you at all if you stopped going to church. what i'm saying is: don't lose Him in your heart. that's what matters. keep on loving Him. to me, He's Someone i can't live without.

we can't afford to lose. He's coming back sooner than we think.
