One is supported by tax revenues and public spending, the other is supported privately and may charge fees for attendence.

Private school pros: Personalized lesson. Less kids in each class. More attention from the teachers.
Cons: Very expensive, may feel seperated from other kids when they grow up. There is a chance that school may not have buses, so the parent will have to pick them up.
Public school pros.: Affordable, kids can make many friends.
Public school cons: Junky school lunches, bullies, crowded classrooms, not enough attention from the teachers.
Private schools seem the way to go, but only if the kid hasn't started school yet. Don't have them be in public school for years and then send them to a private school.
Personally speaking as a public school kid in the US, there is a lot of violence, and swearing. Private schools could help your kid (or you) become and stay a good person, and not having a chance of becoming tormented by the older, meaner kids.

Private school's pros: better equipment, lower class sizes, more disciplined, more motivated teachers will to spend time with kids, more study classes after school, more choice of extra curricular actitivities
Private school's cons: expensive, can be elitist leading to problems for kids from a less privilaged background, kids don't get the chance to mix with folk from all walks of life, can pamper kids too much leading to problems when they get into the real world, can be a bit far from home meaning friends don't live in the area, doesn't always guarentee good results if the child is not capable or is lazy.
State school's pros: usually close by so kids can mix with friends in the same area easily, kids get the chance to meet with people from all social backgrounds, there can be some great teachers in state schools, kids don't expect everything spoonfed to them and handed to them on a plate
State school's cons: bigger class sizes, some schools don't have the best equipment, some schools can be very rough, discipline has gone out the window meaning teachers might have to spend more time dealing with brats than teaching those who want to learn.
There are definitely pros and cons for both types of schooling. That said, in the UK anyway, I think universities are starting to see state schooling as being an advantage because they not only are made to take kids who attended schools in poorer areas now but they see state school kids as more hard-working who have had to put more effort in to get results whereas private kids don't have the excuse of not getting good results since they have every advantage afforded to them such as private tutoring, good teachers and small classes.

Public school is a waste of time if your parents don't do most of the teaching at home. In Public school, teachers focus on making the children happy. Public school has become day-care for working parents. In a Private school you will get a better education and pay through the nose for it. And, if you're not already homosexual, by the time you come out of Private school, you will be. The times have become so evil that Home Schooling is the best option. Talk to your parents.

Both have their good points. Children who go to religious schools seems to have a good basis on a religion to carry them through tough times.
My older children chose public school for their children and my youngest is home schooling her children. There are a lot of good home school groups that can help with that. Its better sometimes of you have a child who can not sit still.
Its all a mater of personal choice. I did notice in New Orleans any girl who graduated from the catholic school did much better then those from public school. It was like a small clan there or sorority feeling that they had between them . Of course New Orleans has one of the first Catholic schools in the United States.

Private schools can sometimes be just the same as public schools; just more expensive. All schools are different though. Sometimes Public schools have less violence and sometimes they don't. i would just suggest checking out both public and privite schools in your neiborhood. hope this helps!

I liked Private boarding school much more. They weren't restricted on what they taught, and I was in smaller classes which was great. I got to learn about flying planes ... cool.
