Does anyone know of any bank in New York that doesn't use ChexSystems?

Stamps.com made unauthorized withdrawals from my account. I tried to cancel their service before the 30-day trial was up. I was not able to, despite repeated e-mails to them. My Roslyn Savings Bank account was overdrawn by nearly $100 and subsequently closed. I tried to get an bank account earlier this year, and was rejected because of being on ChexSystems. I can't even get a savings account because of what Stamps.com did.

Some states have programs, such as "Get Checking" for those who are on ChexSystems. You go through a class on how to handle a checking account and your finances and receive a certificate of completion. You can then take this certificate to certain banks and they will allow you to open a new account.

Next time, don't use e-mail to cancel an account where someone is drawing money from your bank account. Send your request to cancel through the US Postal Service as a certified letter with return receipt requested. This will give you proof that you sent the cancellation request and you can probably get the fees returned.

ChexSystem will keep you on file for 5 years. Not having a savings or checking account in today's world is a HUGE disadvantage. Not to mention the fact that this is also likely on your credit report.

Suck it up and pay the $100 the you "owe" to the bank. Sadly, you have little other recourse. In the long run that will save you a lot of time and grief.

NO ALL CHARTERED BANKS USE IT AS ALL THE BANKS ARE CONNECTED TO IT SO THEY CAN DENY DEADBEATS AND LOSERS THE OPPORTUNITY TO OPEN A CHECKING OR SAVINGS ACCOUNT CAUSE THEY COULD NOT BY PAST BEHAVIOR HANDLE ONE , OR THEY THOUGHT THEY WERE CUTE TRYING TO RIP A BANK OFF . cHEX IS WONDERFUL AS IT MAKES THE PEOPLE CASH CHECKS WHERE THEY WHACK THEM FOR 3% OR SO AND ALSO HAS THEM PAY HIGHER INTEREST RATES , UTILITY DEPOSITS, AND INSURANCE TOO . WE RUN EVERYONE THROUGH CHEX- TAKES LIKE 25 SECONDS - IT IS WONDERFUL .
