This bridge will only take you halfway there
To those mysterious lands you long to see;
Through gypsy camps and swirling arab fairs
And moonlit woods where unicorns run free.
So come and walk awahile with me and share
The twisting trails and wonderous worlds i've known.
But this bridge will only take you halfway there-
The last few steps you'll have to take alone.

I'm just guessing, but it made me think of an author saying that the book is a bridge to the imaginary lands contained within it's pages. The author can only tell you so much - you can read the words that he wrote, but to experience the story, you have to let your imagination fill in the details.

I'm a reader - some people are, and some aren't. Those who aren't will never understand how those of us who are can get lost in the pages of a book. I think that's what the poem is saying - you have to get lost in the book, or you're only halfway there.

This Bridge Shel Silverstein

My heavens, I never have been flashed, but I did unintentionally flash a few folks once. I was in the hospital some time back and decided to take a stoll to the vending area. Well, I wasn't thinking about what I was wearing and, let's just say that those hospital gowns don't leave a lot to the imagination on the backside. The nurse came up from behind me and put a blanket over my shoulders . . . I was wondering why it was a little drafty back there!

I think this poem by Silverstein is about showing something foreign to someone, or introducing something different into someones life. It also implies that you can only tell someone how wondrous a certain idea, or place is - but in the end, they have to see it for themselves or commit to it by themselves in order to experience it fully.

It's been forever since i've read his works, it would be better for me if you had added the poem. I can't recall it, sorry this answer isn't helpful.
