Why is it that in so many US programs (especially Family Guy) the American's always make fun of the English. They seem to portray us as a nation of having bad teeth and talking really posh or make us sound like a nation of butlers. I was born in London, I don't talk posh but can come across well if need be and my teeth are white and straight.

I think its just a stereotype (Austin Powers thing) just like other countries portray all American's as dim witted hillbillies. (there are some of those! lol) But most of us are just average. Just so ya know, I think Britts are HOT! Rock on!

I find this question and some answers offensive but then again everyone has their own opinions and are entitled to them. It is wrong to categorize a whole country on things some do. It isn't fair to allot of Americans and I personally know allot of Americans who don't like the president. Other countries seem to look at the president and then they categorize all of the American citizens. And if America is so bad and all why are there always so many people coming to the borders wanting to become citizens? I am American, well educated, no obese (as we are portrayed) with a nice home and family. I go day to day and be the best person that I can be, to all people. I don't care what country they are from.

funny, funny! I just love how you described the insults as having bad teeth and speaking posh. This is how Austin Powers looked! Anyway, I don't know why people make fun of the English. Probably because a few people had a bad first impression of an English actor/actress and that impression just stayed forever after?
all is okay!

On the personal side, they don‘t make fun of us otherwise
British actors (who are considered the best) would not be
so popular. The teeth is a wartime spillover when the Brits
did not have adequate dentistry, whilst the Americans had
their lovely jacketed, shiny white teeth. The truth is that the
Americans are very proud of their British Descent which can
be noticed by the number of tourists!

I hate to break it to you, but Family Guy is not representative of all American attitudes vis a vis things British.

The Simpsons have a more positive take at least letting a James Bond-esque Tony Blair or Richard Branson be somewhat more representative of you all!

Besides, you Brits can't decide on your own stereotypes.

Are you Ali G, the Spice Girls, Jason Statham, or Basil Fawltey?

Are Americans cowboys, George Bush, rappers or pornstars?

Everybody makes fun of everybody.

Caricatures are almost always funny. It works for all kinds of people. For instance, the guy who runs City Wok on Southpark. No actual Asian or Chinese people speak like that, no matter how little English they speak. It's an exaggeration that points out the ridiculousness of common stereotypes, while mocking the people who don't have the intelligence to realize that that is what's going on. The movie Talledega Nights is another good example.

Shhh...everyone gather round I am about to expose the true answer to this question., it is this:

We are as bad as the Amercians at poking fun and they're as bad as were are, so we are both as equally as bad.

Everyday Americans are fine, if not a tinsy bit stupid, however, it is that stupid Bush man lets them down same as it is that arrogant Blair who lets us down.

Regards to the teeth thing; we are getting better at looking after our teeth, and many of us have teeth to die for. However, we can improve the state of our Nations teeth, but I doubt if the Americans can do anything about their stupidity.

As an American I have always wondered why English comedies are always so much better than ours....that's just how I see it though. I have never cared that much for American television because it makes too many generalizations, is too politically correct, and just often times poorly conceived.

I'm glad you have nice teeth. I don't think that Americans in general pick on the English; shows like Family Guy go after everyone. Every group has some sort of stereotype that is always used against them in jest, but that's all it is.
