Because they were hypocrite racists, just as they are today.

Again, you're full of crap.

Because Democrats were in charge of both houses at the time no bills were passed that didn't have the majority of Democrats supporting. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was Democrat written, Democrat sponsored and enacted by Democrats and signed by our Democrat president Johnson.

Johnson, by the way, had jusy won the election by the largest land-slide victory ever over Republicans.

Why don't you show us your link to the vote logs so we can all see what you see?

Because it was only a temporary Act. Remember it had to be renewed.......unless you are in favor of only letting people have civil rights for predetermined periods instead of permanently......Which is what this was, nothing permanent just temporary, it is a great moment in the land of the free where all men share equal rights when we have to make laws enforcing those ideals.

Because that was before the Republicans figured out how to use fear and hate politics to win all those Southern racists away from the Democratic party.

A lot were southern democrats, against the bill. Some changed their affiliation after that

Back in those days, the Democrats (especially the southern ones) were the racist party.

You'll note that it was the Democratic support for that bill that transformed the south into a Republican stronghold.
