On Mac computers you can hold the Option key while hitting the 4 ($) key to get a cent symbol: ¢. On PCs try the Alt key or other similar keys, perhaps with shift as well. You can also set up a key command in programs like MS Word for any symbol you like as long as it exists, including Greek letters and "webdings" font symbols.

I think because in business writing, it is proper to use the $ sign; such as $ .50 rather than 50 with the cent symbol behind it. But you are correct, it wouldn't kill them to put a cent symbol on there, would it?

Mine doesn't either. I think you're supposed to go $.50 for 50 cents.

If you're using Word (probably other word processing programs have something similar) go to Insert>Symbol.
