The A6 is more expensive and more luxurious. It has the latest MMI technology that integrates the entertainment, climate, and navigation systems much like BMW's iDrive. It's designed to compete with the BMW 5 series and Mercedes E class, and has the technology and luxury to boot. Options like air suspension and radar cruise control are simply not available on the A4, and the interior materials are a cut above as well. It's a lot more like a mini A8 than it is like a large A4.

The A4, despite being "new" for 2006, is really just a mild refresh of the version that debuted in 2002. It has the new grille and the nav system has an MMI-like interface, but is not nearly as luxurious. On the other hand, the A4 is cheaper, more nimble, and is faster with the 3.2 than the A6 is with the same engine, due to the extra weight.

It comes down to what you want. In my opinion, only buy an A4 if you can get a good deal on one. A well equipped 3.2 can go well into the $40K range, and there are plenty of great cars in that price range which have newer technology and more luxury. It's a good car, but with cars like the Acura RL offering 300 hp and a superior awd system for the mid $40K range, it's not the best value. If I were shopping for a compact luxury sedan with awd, I would get the BMW 330i, it's a much newer design and the new BMW engine gets better fuel economy while generating more power. Also, BMW is the last luxury car maker with free maintenance for 4 years. The A6 is much more competitive and I'd definitely look at the A6 if I wanted a midrange luxury sedan/wagon.

I had the A6 estate for 2 years and loved it, generally I found the size of the car just that bit bigger all round. The A4 seemed quite small in comparison. As for handling and engines it depends which engine you get for performance but the A6 handles really well.

For me I would chose A6 over A4 but contact Audi and borrow them both for a day.

Good luck

What are you talking about, fighter jets or cars. HEE HEE. If you are talking about cars, well i think the a6's is a heavier body so handling and your acceleration will suffer, if your engine is the equivalent of an a4 model. I think they do come in a higher engine spec than the a4's.

Rides better but it depends what you use it for. Diesel engines are brilliant and if you really want some fun both RS versions are great.

A4 is more nimble as a drivers car, A6 is smoother on a long run and it has more space.

Check out www.IntroCars.co.uk and comapre how much money you can save between the models.

Each increase in number represents a halving in size. Fold A4 in half and you get A5. Fold A5 in half and you get A6.

Audi (Vollkswagen) are nowhere near as good at manufacturing luxury cars as their German rivals Mercedes and BMW. Get yourself a Beemer instead. You won't regret it. The handling on the 330i is to die for...
