Since we live next door to them, I can tell you that they do provide endless hours of amusement. Sort of like the village idiot.

Personally, I praise Europe more than the "New World". Europe has history, culture, old civilization, arts, social values, and a lot more. Am I jealous of Europeans? No, I'm not!

A lateral comment:
It is not smart to ignore the subject and concentrate on the wording. If you have a point in opposing a poster's argument, just say it. Trying to direct attentions away from the subject with out-of-context replies proves nothing other than the validity of the poster's argument and the shallowness of you.

Sorry for the comment, but it's becoming a trend here to ignore the subject and start discussing typos, wording, offending people of certain race or religion, insulting the question poster, ... etc.

I am an American. I don't think most of us think the world is jealous of us. On the other hand, people without enough food or medicine probably are. (But they are probably jealous of the Canadians, the English, and anyone else who isn't hungry and dying of treatable disease!)

Like all people, we do feel that we have a great society, and that others would be lucky to live like us. But most of us, though we *feel* that way, *know* better.

One problem is that we have learned to say what we think. This is VERY rude in some cultures, but prized, to a large extent, in ours. So when those of us who are incapable of thinking do it, you hear things like: "All Muslims hate us because we are better than they are!" or "Everyone really wants to be just like us, so they get mad!" or "Those %$^& Mexicans just want our tax dollars!"

Believe me, the majority of us don't believe that crap. We respect and honor other cultures, other belief systems, and other ways of life, and truly do want to find a way to share our abundance of natural resources with those who live without basic necessities.

I will be the first to admit, though, that we tend to be insulated, and do not understand, as a rule, as much about other countries as most other world citizens.

But we have such an amazing assortment of cultures within our own borders that we are still trying to figure *those* out. Cut us a little slack, okay? We're young. Really, really young.

It's not jealousy but sadness that a country with such huge potential to help in the creation of a world conducive to life and humanity is run by a small minority of greedy war mongers who care the least for their own ordinary population. It's sad to see so much political and social illiteracy and ignorance in US to the point that a vast majority have resorted to apathy. I pray that American people will wake up and will take back their country from the parasites in power.

Am I jealous of the country I live in? No... but can you be jealous of an object with out a sense of being? I mean, the US is not a person to be jealous of... it's a place. Can you really be jealous of a place that is just there?
