It is unfortunate that your friend is in such a "criminal" system. Often ex-cons are harassed or easily set up. Often even a charge is exaggerated and unjust. The research I've extensively done within USA system made me sick.
BTW, get an attorney who has no time limit, some attorney's demand renewal of fees each anniversary until trail happens.

If she's on the run that could only mean she didn't fulfill the terms of her parole. It will be worse off for her if she runs. What she needs to do is have you or a family member contact her parole officer and see what she needs to do. Chances are it was some thing minor but it's hard to tell with so little information. I'm assuming that she only has a year left on parole and if that's the case, she may as well keep running but I don't really advise that. Determine what happened that caused her to run and then contact an attorney should she need the legal help. Good luck to your friend and keep us posted.

FIRST: If you are helping her to hide... You could be in trouble too. Be careful to play your cards right and don't get caught up in this mess.
SECONDLY: It depends on what she did in the first place, why she only had to serve 4 years and whether she already made promises to the judge that he or she is going to be really ticked off about that she broke. It also depends on what she did to break her probation (Even if it was a "first offense" while on probation).
There really isn't enough info. here to sincerely help you with. There are too many variables.
My first thought is that any judge will be more merciful if she turns herself in vs. wasting the tax payer's money by creating a manhunt.
Explain to her probation officer that the reason she was hiding out was cause she was scared. She knows it was wrong, but she was sort of frozen with fear.
Without knowing what she did I can't really advise, but humbling one's self is always better than running and lying. Help her to do the right thing. That is the ONLY WAY to get better.

She will need a criminal defense attorney and since you are helping her you might need a lawyer as well. Your heart is in the right place but you are not using your head very well. Tell you
friend to stop running and give herself up now. The courts will appoint a lawyer to her if she can't afford one. The longer she runs the worst it will be.

If she is wanted, you need to distance yourself from her no matter how good of a friend she is because you can be charged with aiding and abetting. Advise her to turn herself in, they may take her cooperation in to consideration if she is charged with a probation violation.
