You need to take the carb off. I use like a shipping tag wire to run up through the main metering hole. I used over the counter sprays when I have it apart and compressed air, but it seems likee the wire trick works the best. Make sure are flows through all holes. You should also check your fuel filter if you have one. I also had one where they had used a plastic carb and it had cracked, on that I tried JB Weld, but I ended up replacing the carb. I had a new mower that I worked on that came from Wal-Mart and it would not keep running. There was one piece of dirt in the main metering jet. If your gas cap is not vented it will cause it to die too.

I would check the fuel filter first then the fuel pump.
